neue Serie57®
A Typographic World Premiere
neue Serie57®
neue Serie57® is neither a revival nor a reworking of an old type. It is a discovery—or rather a rediscovery. Designed by Günter Gerhard Lange in 1957 who had caught the spirit of the times and simplified the youngest child of the Akzidenz-Grotesk family. Unfortunately, it was never made into a family—until Erik Spiekermann discovered it in a mislabelled case. Prints from the original metal type were used by Alexander Roth to design the very first digital version of Akzidenz-Grotesk Serie 57. In addition we designed and printed a type specimen. 210×280mm in size, 380g in weight, 64 pages plus cover, and printed in 4C+Pantone 877 Silver on FSC-certified paper. The type specimen is distributed exclusively by Hacking Gutenberg. The edition is limited to 500 copies, numbered by hand and signed.
